Throughout the year, our 4-year-old class will be exploring numbers, counting and organizing data by graphing information. Graphs make counting and comparing meaningful and provide opportunities to explore and discover numbers, letters and letter sounds and other literacy skills. They also provide opportunities for children to develop social skills.
Recently, during 4-year-old Lunch-a-Bunch, students graphed information about the first letter of their name, how many boys were in the classroom vs. the number of girls and more! During these activities, we practiced counting, collecting information, reading results, organizing data and even addition and subtraction!
We will continue graphing throughout the year using themes, holidays and everyday items to compare and sort.
